Turn phone photos into scanner-quality PDFs
The fastest way to scan a document to PDF without an app: open this page on your phone, tap Use camera, hold it over the paper, and press Capture. Which filter should I use?
- Contracts, forms, letters: Auto-enhance keeps coloured letterheads and stamps while cleaning up the background.
- Handwritten notes, textbook pages, receipts: Black & White gives the cleanest look and the smallest file size.
- ID cards, photos, coloured artwork: Original or Auto-enhance — you want the colours preserved.
- Whiteboards and blackboards: Grayscale often works best when lighting is uneven.
Scanning tips for the best quality
- Put the document on a plain, dark surface for the highest contrast against the edges.
- Keep the phone flat and directly above the paper — a slight tilt distorts the shape.
- Use natural light or a bright overhead light. Avoid a single hard shadow across the page.
- Fill the frame with the document, but leave a small margin so nothing is cropped.
- For multi-page scans, keep the phone at the same distance for each page so pages come out the same size.

On desktop it uses the webcam or drag-and-drop; on mobile it uses the rear camera at up to Full HD.
